Storyfest XVIII - The Changing Arctic Since 2010, Seeley’s Bay writer and explorer James Raffan has been engaging audiences with stories of his travels around the world, particularly in the Arctic, where, for nearly fifty years, he has been researching, working, living and learning with northern peoples. Storyfest XVIII, called “The Changing Arctic”—a fundraiser for the Seeley’s Bay and Area Residents’ Association—will take you into the changes James has experienced in his northern career so far and, as with all of his presentations, he will fascinate you with his knowledge, give you things to think about, dazzle you with his pictures, and make you laugh at some of the crazy things that have happened on his arctic adventures over the years. James Raffan is one of Canada’s foremost authorities on the north. He is a Fellow International of the prestigious Explorers Club, a Fellow and past governor of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, past chair of the Arctic Institute of North America and, in 2017, was named by Canadian Geographic as one of Canada’s greatest explorers. He is the author and editor of more than twenty books, including the bestselling chronicle, Circling the Midnight Sun, which takes readers around the world at the Arctic Circle. James and his wife, Gail Simmons, raised their two daughters on the shores of Cranberry Lake and are long-time community builders and supporters in Seeley’s Bay.
